Brazil rent inflation at 4.43% in the year to October 2026

IBGE's IPCA-15 put rent and charges 4.43% higher over 12 months and the housing group at 4.04%, both under the 4.62% headline rate for October.

The facts

  • IBGE's IPCA-15 consumer price index rose 0.32% in October 2026, taking its 12-month rate to 4.62%. Prices were collected from 16 September to 14 October and compared with 15 August to 15 September.
  • The rent and charges subitem was flat on the month at 0.00% and +4.43% over 12 months.
  • The housing group as a whole fell 0.10% on the month, against a 2.07% rise in September, and stands 4.04% higher over 12 months.
  • Housing subtracted 0.02 percentage points from the October index after adding 0.31 points in September.
  • Inside housing, residential electricity fell 0.89% and household fuels rose 1.13%; repairs rose 0.41% and are 5.89% higher over 12 months.
  • IBGE's text names two risers separately — bottled cooking gas at 1.28% and residential rent at 0.28% — and residential rent is a narrower aggregate than the 0.00% rent and charges line.

What it means for your money

  • The rent index rises slower than the headline. Glopra puts Brazil's asking rent at USD 10.6 per square metre a month.
  • Set against Glopra's average asking price of USD 1,937 per square metre, that rent works out at a gross yield of about 6.6% — and this release says the rent leg of it grew 4.43% over the year.
  • If you already let property in Brazil, the 15% rate Glopra records on rental income applies to a nominal rent the index puts 4.43% higher over twelve months, while the repairs line in the same index is 5.89% higher.

What to watch

  • The collection window closed on 14 October, so part of the month is not in these numbers.
  • Housing swung from +2.07% in September to −0.10% in October. The release does not break that swing down by subitem beyond the figures above.
  • These are consumer price indices for rents and housing charges, not market asking rents for investment stock, and the two can diverge.
