Croatia building permits: 1,402 new homes approved in August 2026
Croatia issued 775 building permits in August 2026, 5.9% up on the year, covering 1,402 dwellings, but the eight-month pipeline is 10.4% smaller.
The facts
- Croatia issued 775 building permits in August 2026, 5.9% more than in August 2025, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics reported on 15 October.
- Those permits cover 1,402 dwellings with an average floor area of 91.8 square metres.
- Measured against August 2025 as 100, the index stood at 102.5 for buildings, 134.2 for other structures and 129.8 for dwellings.
- Buildings took 86.3% of the permits and other structures 13.7%.
- New construction accounted for 615 permits and 1,306 of the dwellings, the remainder being reconstructions.
- Across January to August the permit count ran 10.4% below the same period of 2025.
What it means for your money
- Supply is still shrinking over the year, down 10.4%, while August alone rose. A thin pipeline keeps pressure under entry prices.
- National average asking prices sat near 3,925 euros a square metre in August 2026, 14.3% above a year earlier on a national listings index, so the approvals have yet to cool the purchase side.
- Holders of Croatian property read the cumulative line the other way, because a pipeline 10.4% smaller than last year supports resale values while signalling weaker construction activity ahead.
What to watch
- The statistics office releases the September permit count on 16 November 2026.
- The value of permitted other structures came in at an index of 413.2 against August 2025, more than four times the year-earlier level, which points to one or two large infrastructure projects rather than a broad trend.
