Norway building permits up 30.8% in Q3 2026
Norway approved 5,508 dwellings in the third quarter of 2026, 30.8% more than a year earlier, adding future supply to a market yielding 4.33% gross.
The facts
- 5,508 dwellings were approved for construction in Norway in the third quarter of 2026, +30.8% against the same quarter of 2025, according to Statistics Norway building statistics updated 19 October 2026.
- Seasonally adjusted, approvals rose 19.4% from the second quarter.
- Dwelling floor space approved in the quarter reached 612,600 square metres, 9.6% above the third quarter of 2025.
- September accounted for 2,421 approved dwellings, 22.9% above August after seasonal adjustment.
- Twelve months to September 2026 brought 20,319 approved dwellings, 5.6% more than the preceding twelve months.
What it means for your money
- Approvals become finished homes two to three years out. Buyers entering now meet the same supply and the same prices.
- $7,383 per square metre is the Norwegian average in Glopra data, and the 4.33% gross yield behind it leaves little margin if new supply pushes rents down.
- 20,319 newly approved dwellings will compete for the same tenants, so rent rises for an existing Norwegian landlord cap out before prices do.
What to watch
- The October approval count arrives from Statistics Norway on 12 November 2026.
- Approvals are permits to start, not completed homes, and a dwelling counts here when the permit is registered.
- Floor space rose 9.6% while the dwelling count rose 30.8%, so the newly approved homes are smaller on average.
