In Turkey the price group covering rent, water, electricity and gas rose 39.99% in the year to September, while headline inflation slowed to 29.73%.
The facts
- Annual consumer inflation was 29.73% in September, down from 31.51% in August and the first reading below 30% since November 2021.
- Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose +39.99% over the year and 2.71% in the month.
- That group added 4.84 percentage points to the annual rate, transport 5.96 and food 6.73.

What it means for your money
- The rent-and-energy group rose 39.99% against a 29.73% headline. Entry costs more in lira, but so does the rent it earns.
- Glopra's Turkey data puts the effective tax on rental income at 18.39%. The letting exemption is a fixed lira sum that disappears above 1.5 million lira of gross rent a year.
- For an existing owner the move lands on the current holding, while a headline rate under 30% is the first in nearly five years.
What to watch
- This is a price index, not a measured rent. The group mixes rent with regulated water, electricity and gas tariffs.
