Vietnam Construction Value Added Rose 12.22% in Nine Months, Repair Materials 13.07%
Vietnam's statistics office put nine-month construction growth at 12.22%, while house maintenance materials rose 13.07% and housing rent 4.91%. is how much Vietnam's construction value added grew in nine months.
The facts
- Value added in construction rose 12.22% year on year in the first nine months of 2026, contributing 8.23% to the economy's total value-added growth.
- Industry and construction together rose 12.50% year on year in the third quarter and 11.21% over the nine months.
- In the price release, the nine-month average for house maintenance materials rose 13.07%, housing rent 4.91% and household electricity 4.35%.
- In the third quarter the housing, water, electricity, fuel and construction materials group rose 6.59% year on year, with rented and owner-equivalent housing up 5.95%.
- The nine-month average consumer price index rose 4.52%, with core inflation at 4.26%.
- Both releases are dated 3 October 2026.
What it means for your money
- Building and repairing a home got dearer faster than renting one. Maintenance materials rose 13.07% against 4.91% for rents.
- A renovation or self-build budget set a year ago is short. The price index for house maintenance materials rose 13.07%, close to three times the 4.52% nine-month average inflation rate.
- For a landlord the two indices moved apart. The housing rent index rose 4.91% over the nine months while the house-maintenance-materials index rose 13.07%. Materials are one part of upkeep, not all of it, and the rent index tracks market rents rather than any single contract.
- Glopra's Vietnam entry carries no price at all: no national residential price index was found for Vietnam, and the nearest comparable series covers Hanoi only. There is therefore no national measure of whether this building activity is reaching capital values.
What to watch
- The series is monthly, so the next edition shows whether the gap between material costs and rents narrows.
- Construction value added for the third quarter alone is not published. Only the nine-month figure and the combined industry-and-construction aggregate are.
- The price release and the activity release are separate documents, so the housing figures and the construction figures carry different coverage.
